win, lose, make mistakes, mess up, and I just had this deluge of information to
kind of pull from and like be an information sponge around, which is great. And before I was lucky enough to
be in those positions, I worked my way up directly from being a community
member and a mod, which is a very, very common pathway that we see out there.
There's a lot of these community managers out there that are just looking for a break. I'm living proof that like
if you give the right guy a break sometimes, like they will completely outpace your expectations. So, um side
note, like I am hiring right now, but I will be at some point. And for my
community, I'm I'm really looking forward to seeing There's more me's like me out there, is what I'm saying. I'm
excited to meet those guys. You specifically remind me a lot of the cool
stuff that I've been doing as well. Like you just can't be stopped as far as
creativity. And it's it's nice to be in good company. >> Amazing. There's so many ways you can
tap into things there. I think what I'm trying to do with this hour is very
aligned with that whole message, and even to the fact of one of the things
I've always thought that will be really powerful in the new creator age is not
actually having uh solo devs or solo entrepreneurs or solo artists, however you look at it,
hiring people under them, but actually just having contractors of other solo devs or solo entrepreneurs and solo
whomever, right? And solo practices. Um whether that be like a salaried position, but just through the
contractor lens. And I think it'll be a really powerful um way because each individual can grow
um as fast as they can grow themselves as opposed to being um having different friction points of
the the human element, right? Um where you can work in uh some of that right
there. So, I'm excited to find more you as well. Um I think I've been seeing
some of the activity in your community and just getting excited to meet some
more of the folks. So, um I'd love to hear with you hear about
like what you've created and and kind of like your story into into creating shiny
things? >> Absolutely. Um the the truncated version of it essentially is that uh
while I was a partnership manager manager at my previous position, uh we were working with devs and like
there was a very broad team and stuff, but it was so it wasn't corporate, it
was definitely startup culture, but there was a lot of friction with like, "Hey, here's this really cool idea."
And then I had like 400 cool ideas just like everybody else on the staff.
Getting it past the ideation point to like having a prototype was so much
trickier back then, whereas now uh like especially since February, like you can have an idea for like a cool space MMO
or like a love letter to the old uh like retro nostalgic gaming consoles and like
have it in your hands that afternoon if you know how to work with like AI
tooling and stuff. Um like there's I'm seeing a lot of on my X feed, which is
really cool and like inspiring as a solo founder. I'm seeing a lot of people
going this route where they're just like screw the team, screw the red tape, I'm
just going to build it myself, and like if it works, sweet, if it doesn't,
sweet. Like I'm not determined to be a solo founder. I would love to work with more people. I just
like we have the opportunity to get so far on your own now, which is
incredible. Um and then from from those things and the between the ideation speed that like
being a vibe coder unlocks, like you still need to have the vision. Like you can't just say, "Build
me cool thing," and then Fable Boy spits out. You know what I mean? But um
between the like how fast you can ideate on the vision that you have now, I think
it's really cool to be in this renaissance and be hopefully like at the
forefront of this renaissance for people are making cool stuff that's going to all work together, which
is another point of like coming from that partnerships and community manager thing. We managed to do a couple of
really cool things, but like now from the ground up um with Fable Boy and
Waypoint, like my basically everything in my studio is designed both with itself and within my studio to be
interactive, but also like on the back of the skin I built for you, it takes an
afternoon to build an entire like collab with somebody and it's not just like,
oh, let's get some visuals out there and do the numbers. Like it's about how fast
you can reach out and represent a community now instead of having to have
like an entire like three, four weeks build up and then like maybe a poker
night or you're playing um what was it? Uh the the free go-karts rumble battle. You know what I mean?
Like we were all there in the communities through the 2022 etc. But now you can you can in an afternoon you
can give them representation through an entire custom skin. You could build them out like games if you wanted to,
leaderboards from the ground up like as a community manager most of the the
builds that I have are tools to allow for as much or as little time as a
community has to engage with the product. So like a classic example, my launch partner OpenServe um
which I can show here on the screen here in a little bit. Uh with them I built
them an entire like just like I would did with you, I built them a custom skin
for Fable Boy, but I also built them an entire game cartridge that is a it's
like a there's an old game called Wizards um which I took a lot of inspiration from
but it you got three of their AI agents in there making most of the decisions
for you but you can guide them. There's 10 different levels and then a remix
options so you could just keep playing indefinitely. Um and there just like any
classic game of the day you're playing it for the high score. If you put a high
score on that leaderboard um there's some alpha now. Like all of the leaderboards which every single game
cartridge supports uh eventually all of those leaderboard placements are going to be used for some
community kickbacks in the future. So literally just spending your time on any of my products, like if you had fun and
posted about it like and I mean posted as far as a leaderboard score. We'd love
engagement. If you want to post on X, hell yeah, it's built for that. But like
the whole core premise of my studio basically and that I learned over those
300 partnerships and so on and so forth is that the a lot of the things that people were
doing quote unquote wrong was trying to get your attention and trying to get
your money. And the thing that people in order to get anything from somebody,
you need to respect their time. Flat out, because it's the only resource we're never going to get more of. So,
and we've all gone into DMs, we've all gone into projects, or checked out an X,
where it's the same thing you've seen a million times. And you just immediately
turn out or tune off because it's you've spent your time down that avenue
already. You know it's a dead end or it's unlikely to not be a dead end, or
etc., etc. So, from the get-go and with the core everything I do, whether it's
Waypoint, Fable Boy, or Doctrine, or any of the other things that I've got
cooking, the core concept is that if you have time to play it, awesome. If you don't,
the AI can play parts of it for you and still keep you going.
Um like in Waypoint, we've got the I think Claude right now, GPT, and
Hermes can all play the game for you while you're away to an extent. Like
you're not going to get to the absolute top of the leaderboards letting your AI
play for you, but they're all built to be idle games with teeth, basically. So,
like if you have [clears throat] time to spend on them, hell yes. But there's no
version of this where I'm asking for hours of your day every day in order to
get >> you're not also losing out by by missing a day or two because you can
have something keep up some of those small things like daily quests, etc., or
however it looks. >> Exactly. 100% And I do uh we have daily quests. Like there's a like in Waypoint,
it's a great example. Um >> And when you keep saying Waypoint, what what do you mean by Waypoint?
>> So, that is a great Thank you. Goodness. The amount of devs, myself super, super
guilty of this. You think you're walking around with like that bus thing on your
head where it shows exactly [laughter] the destination. And people aren't psycho or they're they they can't read
your mind. You know what I mean? So, heck yes. Um So, my studio is Shiny Things because
magpies make shiny things. Uh I have a lot of experiences coming to that, but
the two flagship titles that I would say for it, The first one is Fable Boy,
which we'll get into shortly, but Waypoint is the other one. And technically the first of the two that I
built. Um what Waypoint is is it is it is a it is hopefully the world's
first AI-enabled sci-fi MMO that has full idle play-through time. So like you can play 10 seconds a day or 10 seconds
a week and still keep up with things. Or you can dive completely in and do ground
PvE that feels like XCOM sort of. There's space PvE where you can send and
hire mercenary fleets at each other. Um for free you can sign in and it will
randomly generate for you an entire solar system with complete regular orbits, moons, all sorts of stuff with
like shops on it, NPCs to talk to, full quest lines. Um it does that in 30 seconds by the way
with zero install in any screen, which is great. Um So what I'm saying when I'm talking
about Waypoint, I'm talking about uh this big expansive like MMO that is also very
very easy to interact with you can just pop in for 10 seconds and
say, "Hey, send my crew out and do some stuff." and it'll do that for you, which
is incredible. Um Between the two of them, some alpha for some people. I have and you've seen this
already, Zal, which is cool. I just haven't fully pulled the trigger on it.
Um I'm going to be doing a scavenger hunt in Waypoint where just any of the
stuff that you're doing, whatever you're doing, even if it's your AI playing idle
mode for you basically. It'll be a lesser drop rate for those obviously. Um
But you'll be able to find loot caches that open up just like you'd expect from
like Overwatch, the cool stuff like that, that have a lot mostly in-game resources, cool stuff, rare things. But
they will also have uh scattered throughout them partner prizes. Like I'm working with Meshy right now for some
stuff to give away. I've got a lot of partners in the works. But the core
thing that everybody will be hunting for is uh golden cartridges for Fable Boy.
>> Oh, okay. I do like that. Like But golden Pokémon, right? >> Yeah, yeah. Or like a Willy
Yeah, exactly. Or like a Willy Wonka kind of a thing where it's >> Yeah.
>> as you're just going around and like you can ask the different AI like
you'll get tips and be like it's somewhere over in this sector sort of
and then you'll go to that place and you'll check out with the AI that like
is at the station that knows a a little bit about it and you can like buy a hint
or whatever or just quest through it and get lucky. But as you if you're one of
the people that earns one of these golden cartridges, it's a literal like 3D cartridge that you can take and if
you were also a member for free uh on Fable Boy, you'll be able to redeem
that cross-game loot and in that cartridge there'll be I don't really want to say quite yet,
but there's going to be including some >> surprises. >> Right. >> Yeah, that's all you have to say.
>> Exactly. Exactly. >> love the idea of the cross-game collaboration, right? Because there's so
many creators out there that have like you said the ability to go from
idea to something that you can put in your hands is so fast now that people
have just these random one-off whether it's an idea that they just got on that
day of or have had it for 15 years, the ability to now potentially at least see
that through is there. So being able to now >> Uh >> take some of those things that you have
built and interact with them together, right? The things that you said okay like this is going not only from an idea
to an MVP, but something I want to like invest my time, effort, and energy
towards and now not only the one thing you're putting your time, effort, and
energy towards, but the next thing is something you can unlock and it is
amazing. So I I love the way you're thinking. I really am excited to see
um you know, as these things come out and continue how we can help share some
things and and try things out. I'm excited to to to tap in with where where
we're going here and and just if you if you're ready, I feel like
I'm excited to just share share your screen and tap into some of these fun
things. >> Absolutely. Let's get that >> Oh, I did have one question for you. How
long have you been doing shiny things? What is the How long have you been
Magpie doing shiny things? Is that Or have you been Magpie for longer? >> That's uh you've activated my trap card
and I'll keep it very short. So, Magpie is actually uh a nickname from a very
old friend of mine um based on just the first bird name that I remembered
learning and uh she had one, too. I've used that moniker for a long time since
then, but shiny things specifically uh I built my portfolio site that eventually emerged into the studio I
think in February. Um very shortly after I stepped away from my previous position
to go solo basically. So, uh Magpie about a decade now, give or take. Um and
uh the studio itself is about 8 months old at this point. >> Awesome.
>> Yeah. >> Let's get into it. That's super exciting. >> All right. So, we've got uh make sure
this is here. Share with audio, perfect. All right. So, I just did some updates
today, which I'm really >> Let's go. This is amazing. >> Thank you. Thank you. So, this is this
is Fable Boy. This is a fully uh virtual console that has uh all of the
bits you'd expect. The buttons actively work. Like I can press A B. Got the full
D-pad, start, select as you would expect. Um this here you can see it
wearing the very very It's one of my favorite >> What was that a boy game?
>> Yes. Yeah, I I had one $3 for So, let me let's pop this in right now just to kind
of show you. I built this in like an hour basically. And all it is is it's
>> [snorts] >> Every game comes with like the preview of what you can do and how to play it.
I'm noticing that on the recent thing I usually I can drag this up and down,
so we're just going to have to deal with it being a little bit now. But yeah,
uh So, as you can see, it's just find a challenge and basically it's take a
bounty, view the board, how it works. Uh Perfect. And then if I want to open the
link it just takes us uh let's just share this tab instead. It because it's built
in 3.js, like I can link anything from anywhere and there's no installs. So
like uh I use this as an example of um being able to just hotlink and show off
different parts. So like one of the things I'm going to be doing with the
whatever attention I do get um is showing off some of my favorite things
throughout the space completely for free. Uh like one of another great example for that, let me scroll down to
the bottom here is Herm's World, which is This is actually the world's first AI MMO
and he's one of the reasons I built Waypoint in the direction I did, which
was to enable the MCPs and let AI play alongside you as like like while you're
away and also just straight up as wingmen and stuff like that. But this is
an entire love letter. Let me zoom in here. that you can play straight up
built in with the lore from his is basically wow but AI plays with you.
This is what that looks like if it was on a retro console of this exact type
that you would expect for. You can play all the way through. There's a bunch of
fun stuff that you can do for it and then of course just like any of the
titles, you can set a leaderboard which every single one of the leaderboards like I mentioned earlier is going into
like this meta contest that I'm going to be announcing here probably season two.
Um but what this has is let's see if I can see the entire Ah. Perfect. So there
are There's 30 games right now. Like let's just pop in Puff Sprite real
quick. Take a look at it. Mhm. Yep. Nice. >> Ah. >> Oop. There we go. There we go.
>> Ooh. >> [laughter] >> So there's 30 full like love letters to retro games already built in which is
particularly cool. But for the people that are like this is awesome but like I
never had a Game Boy and I don't particularly like older games which I
completely feel you. Let me uh show you around the arcade real quick. I just put
out V2 of this today. So this This first time people are seeing this right now.
>> Exciting. >> [laughter] >> So, first and foremost, we've got all of the different consoles here. Like, for
example, you can see the Fable Boy here, which if you click on it, it takes us
right back to the screen we were on. >> [snorts] >> But, you can also get a sneak preview of
the nine console generations that I actually have built out and are coming in future seasons, like the Fable Boy
Color, for example, which has its own entire modeling. It has its own entire skins. It's got Q,
midnight, like you you name it. Like, this has been an entire like full love
letter. Uh it's an entire regular model. It's got all the bits you'd expect and
this particular one has five games, but they're not unlocked for public view right now.
Um kind of going back to the gallery just to give everybody an overview. From
there, we've got the Advance, ready to rock. We've [laughter] got the Fable 2600. We've got the Fable Home System.
We've got the Fable or the Mega Fable. >> I love >> One of my favorites, the Fable Station
with the nice crystal clear screen. >> That was my first console. Well, the
PlayStation 2 is my first console, so >> Absolutely. >> I like enjoyed that one.
>> You can see it's got the full like the nice little preview area, which is a
little a little out of date, but it still shows off the different skins. So,
like, we've got the ghost shell. You got the basics. You've got the nice debug
blue, straight black, little snow, and then right back to the ghost shell. So,
all of these consoles are built out ready to go. So, it's not like one of
the things that I've mentioned a few times briefly is I hate road maps. I
love having a road map, but I hate when an entire project is just oh, hey, the
road map's coming, which we we've all been through those. You know what I
mean? So, >> So, you built your road map here. >> Yeah, exactly. It's ready to rock. It's
ready to go, which is great. I've got it all the way up to the Fable Q.
Including it does have we do have the orange skin for it. But, also on the
shelf here, you can see like I've got the media the way that you'd expect it
to look for all of these. We've got the mini discs. Got the cartridges.
>> Wow. >> Right? Like, this is it's a love letter to retro games. If I'm going to ask for
your time, I want it to be worth something, you >> Okay. I got another uh potential idea
for you if you don't have it. Maybe you do already, but uh I had a handheld
Tetris. That was actually my first my first uh and I love Tetris. I'm a big
Tetris guy. So, that could be another Maybe maybe you already have Tetris somewhere in one of these games.
>> [laughter] >> That would be fantastic. I do I have a I have a block version
>> Yeah. But like uh I'm curious if I can even find it online again, but like
yeah, just like it's like it was just a handheld. Uh Yeah, I digress. But uh this is
amazing. Yeah, I'm just thinking of all the possibilities. >> Right. Some of the other just super
quick like fun bits that I've got in here. Oh, okay. Well, never mind.
>> [laughter] >> Apparently. That's funny. This is usually a fully functional like pawn
machine mini game that I'm going to be hiding different pricing in as well.
Well, you'll be able to like if you have a token, then you can play it. There'll
be a bunch of cool stuff in there from partners or just like ship skins and
stuff. Uh I just added this actual interactive thing, but I've got uh continuing the love letter theme like if
you want to learn how to play Fable Boy, there is an entire I have a whole
interactive 24-page like Magpie powered magazine for you that tells you exactly how to play all the different stuff,
shows off like here's Magpie Quest the different vault maps and stuff like that. Like uh version two
>> Was that burning your first part? Actually, go back to that cuz that was
one of my questions is let's say a creator that's out there is like, "Oh,
this is amazing. I want to create a game. I want it to be in the Fable Boy."
How what's a process for a creator to to do something like that? >> That's a fantastic question. So, let me
pull this up here. What I'm going to be allowing soon and I've got built out and
tested for the most part is people to create their own Fable Boy cartridges or
games for any of these consoles. Um it will not let you emulate anything.
It won't let you steal IP and stuff like that. So, that was where most of the
testing went. Um because Nintendo doesn't care what the thing looks like. They just don't want
you playing Mario or any other games on it. So, it will report any emulation and
all the legal stuff you'd expect. >> But, it also has like like boundaries basically, which like
you can get around but like for instance, if you build one with the the
Fable Boy, it's going to make sure the screen is in specific colors with a
specific amount of It's going to have the right retro feel to it. You know
what I mean? Um right now, the ability to buy dreams and create dreams is turned off
because it's going to be you'll be able to use any of the usual cryptos that you
want or if you choose to buy it with my token, you'll get a discount. Um
but you can also if you want to skip all that nonsense like the the the prompting
and stuff, the API docs are right here. You can just go ahead and check it out
and build your own. And shout out to Ryan from Triumph Games. He's got If I
screwed that up, I'm sorry, Ryan. But, he sent me over the file to a really
cool like Dig Dug kind of a game. And I just haven't had time to slap into a
cartridge yet. But, like just using this like you can already just copy paste
this and send it to Claude or your AI agent of choice and say make me a Fable
Boy game that does this. And if you send that to me, I will make sure it gets in
here. It's got a leaderboard like you can run events off of it right now if
you want to. Um >> So, >> Yeah, we will definitely get a ticket a
Zao game in there soon. >> That would be a lot of fun. Um and then
let's see. There's of course the tutorials and stuff like that. But, let me go back to
the arcade here real quick. And the controls just isn't touch. You can they
come by default but all of the controls are fully customizable. So, if you don't
like the basic default etc., you can swap it all up. >> [snorts] >> Uh let me do a quick skin showcase here.
>> That's actually something I was always didn't like about certain emulators in different capacities where it was like
oh, I just no choice of customization for some of these things. >> Right, exactly. It's It's just no fun.
Actually, I'm curious. Let me check this real quick. Ah, okay. So, this is still
a little bit WIP, but I realized when I was building like the accounts page for
Fable Boy, I really liked the like the interactive magazine style. So, your accounts page is just going to be its
own like the Nintendo Power magazine. Yeah. It'll keep track of all of your
different scores. Um just like the the third edition right now in the arcade
actually tracks everybody's scores. That's how I'm keeping track of the stuff that's coming up. Um but I
digress. Let me take us back to the arcade real quick and then I can show
off uh Waypoint here as well. And one of my favorite things about this because
this is all built with 3.js. First off, this is just in any browser. There's no
installs. So, there's zero security risk to anybody with like It was It was a worry to me having run
support for so long that I don't want anybody to ever install something on
something that they have like their crypto wallet on or that they have important work files on. You know what I
mean? 3.js allows that, but it also lets you do cool stuff like build an entire
row of fully built out ready to rock arcade cabinets that in the click of a button take you to any
other experience. So, this is the Waypoint cabinet, but it'll take you straight to Waypoint.
>> [laughter] >> Which is great. >> That's great. Yeah. >> It's It's a blast. So, as I'm building
out different titles like Doctrine is coming in here, Graph Free is coming in here, but I'm
also going to be working with some of my community and just different projects
that I like to get them free console arcades and stuff just to help drive
mutual traffic to show off cool [ __ ] that I like like High Tides or Assault
Ships is my motto. >> Amazing. Yeah. >> Let me pull up This is Waypoint through
Fable Boy, but let me just pull up straight Waypoint. >> Okay. >> Just so it's got the nice There we go.
Full screen. Full screen is so much nicer, you know? >> [laughter] >> This is This is Waypoint.
Um and a lot of things are going to run through it, but they have also it's
>> And you started this earlier this year. >> Yes, this is like the first thing that I
built out actually. It started with uh somebody I was building some work for a
client and then they were like, "Do you think you can get me like realistic
orbits for this visualizer type of thing?" And I was like, "You know what?
I can." And then long story short >> everything blew up from there. >> Right. But I realized like I can't I can
literally do that. So like this is my home system. The orbits are all like normal orbits
they go through it but like if I click on this one here you can see then the
orbits of all of the moons around it >> Oh >> Like it is it is a full solar system
built in 30 seconds. And anywhere you see one of these symbols here there is
an active space PvE fight that you can get into. You can hire instantly
a bunch of randomized mercenary ships. Like this is the copper roof prime. This is how much it costs. This is its
stats built from built on the fly from a set of 116 or so different parts that
are kind of inspired from Kerbal Space Program. So you can build your own ship
piece by piece or you could just hire an entire mercenary fleet. This isn't
enough let me get overwhelming force. Let's get 21 ships in here. I don't like any of these. Let's reroll
the entire fleet real quick. >> Oh my goodness. >> Perfect. All right, adaptive I like it.
Let's just let's do a quick one here. >> So when you say there's an active PvE
fight going on does that mean some other player hypothetically is in an active
PvE fight? Or player or agent? >> So it's Yes, so you've got agents in
here that are kind of helping you. You can set their their attitudes up here at
the top so like you can make fighting optimal range or you can have them be
snipers and kite and stuff like that. And they will make decisions for you and
I can just kind of show you a quick one. Let me call some backup with this fleet
as well. Which this is an interesting feature that is not fully ready yet. But
one of the things you'll be able to do is like you have your own fleet that you
can hire out to other people that will just show up in their options down here
and when they hire that fleet for free you'll both get more bonuses just kind
of to do player stuff. Itty bitty down here, I have a co-op in
testing as well. So you'll be able to like send an invite code to people. But let me just show you
the stuff real quick. We'll see how polished it is from some updates I did
last night. Um but there's a ton of different stuff. Oh yeah, there we go. There we go. Not
quite the distance I'm looking for, but yeah, here's here's my fleet. >> Okay.
Yeah. >> Here's their fleet. Oh, we've got some frame rate issues right now. I
apologize. I will have to optimize that. >> Yeah, might also be part of it being
sharing screen as well. >> I I always forget that the the the the
tax that that takes on it. But the idea is even this isn't a great
representation, these guys are going to go in and they're going to fight each
other. They've all got a whole bunch of different stuff. You can see I can do
>> So but the the the people that they're fighting are the environment, not
another player. You're adding to another player's army. >> Yes. Well, you you you are hiring these
guys to go complete this task. >> With the other person. Okay. >> Yep. That's this green fleet, which is
not the most obvious over here, but this green fleet warped in to help out. Um on
wide screen, it's not liking. But then these guys will do battle. You can see
all the stuff down here. It's designed to be like you can tell them to go attack
certain targets, which I'm not going to try to do with this effort. >> of Legends base where it's like it's
just happening, but you kind of have input if you want. >> you can be like I need this guy to die
or I need you to retreat back here or those like some basic stuff, but it's
going to mostly kind of play itself out based on the pre stuff that you have.
And then once I've got the this polished and I've got the PV or the the group PVE
where you're both joining at the same time to fight uh NPCs, one of the things
probably season two, I'm going to have it so that you can uh asynchronously
because like you can set the the the attitude in the fleet and stuff
beforehand, you'll be able to climb up a PVP ladder for rewards as well both in
the token and if I can get some partners to sponsor it as well, then sweet. But
if not, that's the whole point of me having my own token is so that I can
just iterate on stuff really quick and have a lot of fun, you know what I mean?
>> No, I love it. One of the things I did this year that I would just did as kind
of like a fun challenge was I did a 3-month-long build-a-thon and did it in
a lot of different capacities where the first month was just like a bunch of
friends and interesting teachers that I got on to share a little bit. The second month was an open builder,
anyone could build, and the last month was a curated build with our six
finalists from the artist track, the builder track, and the creator track. And I was thinking it'd be really
interesting to incorporate people like you and other partners that I've been seeing building cool things that are
open, not open just open world, but open buildable like on top of like having other people come in and add
their flavor. And I think it'd be really fun to do a version of the of the Zeball
games the next time where that's the biggest thing it incorporates is it asks
you to go and explore different creators' builds already, add on top of it, and create something that a creator
could have never expected, but then that ultimately that creator to be able to
do something with that or build on top of that or go in a different perspective
or at least see something else that's out there. So, I think that could be a
lot of fun, and and it'd be really fun to yeah, play around here. I don't know
if you want me to potentially open it up and we can show it just like
from fresh cuz I think you said it was like a 30-second um something within the
>> yeah, here. I can I can do that for you right now. So, I think I Do you have a
system yet? If not, I can build it for you. >> think so. >> All right, let's check this out. This is
the This is all custom tooling and stuff like that. Let me just close this so it
looks even cooler when we're doing our thing. We're just going to go Do you
have a specific name you want or just the Zeball? >> Zeball is all is my go-to.
>> You want space in there? >> Zeball actually. >> Got you. >> Because see, the thing is I Yeah, yeah,
yeah, yeah. >> And you you can change this later. It's just >> Amazing. No, I love social platforms
where I can just use all. I'm still a little upset that Instagram has an inactive dollar account.
>> We actually The thing you sent me earlier today about that about a column
sitting is the exact same same thing. But but again, so okay, boom. >> This is your system built, ready to go.
And just like I said, you can see there's there's there's combat ready to
do. It's got all the different stuff. Anywhere you see >> Okay, so the system is not a player's
profile. Like it's a singular thing by player. It's something that's on the platform as a place anyone can go,
basically. >> Yeah, this right now anybody can go and visit this and start questing in this
like literally right now. It's that it's that built out. And like it they all
come with at least eight venues. So this guy here, Bram Holt, was built on the
fly. These quests here are all local things. Like if I go to accept contract,
I can be like, "Oh, I want this crew member. I want this crew member. I want
this crew member." And we're going to launch that mission. They'll be done in a few hours. Very
idle stuff. If you don't have time to log in and do this, you'll be able to
tell your Telegram bot to do it for you. Like it'll be able to do a lot of the
idle stuff. And then just give you full like scale kind of stuff cuz this cool.
Yeah, so >> One of the really cool things that you have as a potential as well with this
with your potential customers is not only like community members helping create community in different
capacities, but community members like with the optimal meta participating in Waypoint and having
different perspectives and opinions on that. That'll be really interesting cuz one of the things I always liked in in
trading card games when I was really into it was just understanding that the
collective intelligence of what everyone was thinking. And then my favorite thing is when everyone was like, "Okay, this
is like how everything is always supposed to play out." And then someone comes in with a completely new
perspective and absolutely destroys the meta that's out there with a completely new thing. And then everyone does that
because that's now the most optimal option, right? So, I'm really interested to see how people create media around
playing the game, but not only playing the game like in the lore and like how
all that works, but also how to optimally use your time as an individual
to push your AI agent forward to play in the in the Waypoint ecosystem.
>> 100% those things are all top of mind as I'm building it out like
super super quick touch though which it's not built fully yet, but one of the
things that I have like So, there's there's SAS. What I like to think I have
admitted here is solar systems as a service. >> [laughter] >> Which is ridiculous, but also like
right? >> Yeah. >> Each one of these planets like the stores eventually you'll be able to sell
your own stuff through your venues if you want to and rig all that stuff up or
like if this planet here there's nothing stopping you from here in a month or two
when I finalize the code make this a place where you can come and visit and
see like all of the cool like art you can turn it into an art gallery. That's
the >> Very cool metaverse style, but in a very not using the word metaverse, but
getting those benefits. >> Exactly like a galaxy type of thing. >> Yeah, no this is amazing. Cuz I've been
>> two cool things real quick that I just I one of which I almost never get to show
off just because it's it's so nerdy who cares and then the second one is
>> No, those are the things I love. >> Right, this is not the super nerdy one.
This is just a cool thing that I have finalized today. Let's see if it works.
>> Establish trade. >> Yes, okay so perfect. So, I just started a trade route with you Saul.
From now on forever me and you are going to get 30 resources per hour from the
two native for my system if you need them. >> is the question. When you say you
>> Yes. >> and when you say system, what is the relation of like do I log in and I have
to now claim this specific planet or am I logging >> this is your
This entire solar system is yours. >> Okay. >> The whole thing here and that's the
thing I'm about to show you that's really cool. But when you log in it'll
ask you and you don't have to, but it'll ask you to come to this thing here and
this little >> It's like your home planet, basically. >> Yeah, basically. Except that it's your
home solar system. So this is your This whole thing is yours. So trade routes are live. Anybody that's
playing passively right now, I encourage you to go look around the galaxy map
which I'm about to show you. But the second thing that's like really niche,
but very cool is the the background stars. Notice how they line up. >> Yeah, I I've been wondering this for the
whole time. >> Right? So this is the thing that's really cool is there's no reason that I
had to make these actually the like this These are the stars based on where your
thing spawned in and I'm about to show you what that means. [laughter] >> How far am I from you?
>> Yeah, exactly. So you can see here there out that way is a little less
dense. Right there in the middle >> Oh, that's >> Those are literally the background stars
and you can see the whole playable galaxy here. All of the different players that are on
the server >> goodness. You're making me want to learn about space more. I love this.
>> Well, the thing is you don't have to know anything about space if you don't
want to. >> I more just mean like you're making me want to go back to the time that I've
like thought about wanting to dive deeper into space and this is like this
is why. It's so cool. >> Yeah, right? It's just as an example, like I can search for whatever I want to
or I can just hit like give me a random star system. It'll show me the whole
route. Hey, it's D. Daniel. I hope he's watching right now because this guy he's
been a freaking OG in the community since we launched a couple weeks ago. So
let's let's check out his system real quick. It should load in 5 seconds real
quick. Bang. We are now in the D. Daniel system. He's got a really sick little
white dwarf. That's awesome. Those are rare. Um, but this is his whole system. Uh,
fully RNG, all the names, all of the content, all the questing. I can start a
trade route right now with him. Me and him are going to get resources. There's
no limit to the amount of trade routes you can have. I encourage everybody to
go visit as many systems as they can and check it out. And to show off the cool
time saver thing, this AI is built with the back end brains from Open Serve and
it's layered on top of Claude and GPT. So like when I tell it to just "Can you
send some crew on a mission?" Even if I misspelled it, I'll send Maracrest or Inveilen. Okay,
yep, done. Please, yes. Yep, go. Good. It just It just started That thing
I showed you earlier where I assigned crew to a specific local quest, it did
all of that for me. And you can do that here or you can do it in Telegram if you
want to. Like there's a whole MMO here, but it doesn't require you to give it a
full day's worth every time. You can pick it in Like it's built to be
forgotten about and still let you win. Because at the core of everything I'm
doing, your time has to matter. It just has to. You know what I mean?
>> That's [laughter] amazing. Okay, so I'm going to I'm going to give you a
question and I think I don't normally do like specific questions with people, but
I have so many things I want to tap into. I just want to play the game,
honestly, at this point. But um I'm a trading card game person. When I was
growing up, uh there's this concept in Magic the Gathering of different types of player. Timmy, John Johnny, and
Spike. And I'm curious um the idea is that uh Timmy is uh let me just Timmy is a power
gamer. Timmy likes to win big. He doesn't want to eke out the last minute
victory. Timmy wants to smash his opponents. He likes his cards to be impressive and he enjoys playing big
creatures and big spells. And Johnny. Johnny likes a challenge. Johnny enjoys winning with cards that no one else
wants to use. He likes making decks that win in innovative ways. What sets Johnny
apart from other profiles is that Johnny enjoys deck building as much as he
enjoys playing. Blah blah blah blah blah. And then there's Spike. Uh Spike is a competitive player. Spike plays to
win. Spike enjoys winning to accomplish this. Spike will play whatever the best deck is, copy decks off the internet,
borrow other good players' decks. Despite the thrill of magic is the general rush of competition. So, I
really like those the concept of like magic having the ability for each of
those archetypes to not only be like you can be 100% of the these individuals,
but portions of each person is portions of this and being able to play as each
person is a success of like the game style of Magic the Gathering. I'm
curious if you've thought of anything like this, like kind of player profiles, and then also if you were going to pick
you like your percentage of those characters, what would you be as Magpie? >> I think I probably
I would lean a little bit competitive because I definitely like the red deck
wins, but I also like to do stuff that's not just the meta. So, like like for
example, for the people that would understand it, I when I did play magic
cuz I used to work at a local game store. So, I played it professionally,
not like as a professional, just I had to learn it for work, is what I'm
saying. [laughter] That's how I approach magic, but once I did, I found that I
really like playing like um kind of chill sneak up on you things where it's a little obvious what's
coming, but with a little bit of a dagger in the back. So, like I would
play um like go wide decks, white green, but I would keep a little bit of red in
there just because I like you not knowing your total health is actually 15, not 20. You know what I mean?
>> I love that. >> A little bit of a >> That's exactly That's exactly where I'm at. I love the
competitive. I'll take anything that I can do to win win, but also the the
winning big and and the combo are really important in those 10% moments where
it's just like you're not just playing the meta, right? Like you said, it's fun
to have those absolute fun get decks to play or or or play styles. And I think
this reminds me of that a little bit of like, okay, a person that's just like
just trying to like be on it all the time can do that. A person that's uh
spending maybe 5-10 minutes a day or 5 10 minutes a week to be able to
keep on growing towards a specific goal in mind to be able to like attack that
specific part of the game. You have a little bit of for for everyone.
>> Absolutely. Let's see. I'll show you actually since you mentioned card games I'll show you
the thing that I mentioned in a DM a while ago just kind of also show that
I've got more than just these two games coming. But what was the other thing I
was right. Let me go ship and upgrades real quick. This is a little Robbie
because I haven't pushed like the back end dev updates yet but like here
just to show off like each ship that you have like hero ship wise has its own
stats and so and so forth. But like the pieces as you're questing you'll find
different bits that are literally like polynomial type of sits and you can there's a bit of like a Tetris kind of a
cargo game which is fun. But mostly I wanted to come here and show off the
loot caches which are still in early development but like you can see here
this one I earned from space PVE. This one was just an idle crew dispatch like
the one you saw me send them on. This one is my first scan etc. But let's
let's just open the loot chest real quick and see what I get. It's a little rough around the edges but
let's see what we got. Let's open the merch cash. Aww. >> Okay. >> And see you can see here there's the
golden cartridge right there. >> Oh, wow. >> Just as an example. This is not live
loot yet but just to kind of give people an example of what we've got. We've got
six different slots for stuff to put it in. You can see here like there's active
like this is that's the exact shape of what that piece would go on to your ship
etc. to make it nice and easy inventory kind of fun stuff. But like as an
example these are the chests that you'll be able to find for free as you're just
playing the game. I'll have loot chests and other things and stuff but like just
figured I'd give off an example and then real quick let me uh This is one of my other titles that I
built for our vibe jam a while ago but it is very card game heavy.
>> [laughter] >> Okay. >> It's a few months out of date so it's
going to be a little rough when I get in there but this This of my favorite
things that I have ever built, I will say. So, it is a You can play against
players or you can play against Let me >> [laughter] >> Let me go back, actually. We'll get to
that in a second. Give me doctrine again. There we go. So, in match setup, you can
either play against uh survival mode, you can go up against the AI ladder. So, I've got like a bunch
of the free AI out there that will pilot the AI the things against you or you can
play against other people. But, the premise is that you are a wizard that
has already beaten a bunch of ass in the past and you have turned say this root
sanctum that gives you uh two heavy units uh from the Amber Monks. You have
like I'm going to grab this guy and put it right here. >> [snorts]
>> I'm going to let's let's skip through the page here and find some other spells
real quick. These guys here, you beat the hell out of them and you have worked
with them now. So, that when you are in a fight with other wizards, you can call their HQ and
they'll come running out to help fight exactly with you right there. So, it is
an RTS that you can kind of play at the speed of What the hell is that?
>> [laughter] >> Kind of weird bug on the visuals. But, just to give you an idea uh definitely
non-polished and this isn't one of the ones that's coming out immediately. But, what I have worked with here is like
with this root sanctum, I can just drag this here. Lightning zap, the building
sprouts up out of nowhere and then the units come spilling out to start
fighting each other. It's very like Avatar: The Last Airbender where they're fighting with like magical powers and
stuff like that. But, I also don't think I have it in here right now, which is
unfortunate. But, I built a hover tank that is also a waypoint that you can
spawn into this as well because why the hell am I? I can be multi-job.
But, the idea is that you you collect different cards that you'll be able to
loot a waypoint or from Fable Boy games and stuff like that. Like, let's slap
out the Drift Auto ways and see what that looks like. It spawns in and dudes
start running out to go fight for you and do all sorts of stuff. And they Of
course, you can tell them to go into a formation, all the stuff you'd expect
from an RTS. And there is somewhere in this massive buildings, you can see them sort of
fighting with these other guys right now. They're fighting over the nodes. So, when I'm talking about shiny things
I'll go to the portfolio page real quick. We've got two flagships and then the one
that you saw there, which is doctrine over here. But like I've got tons of stuff that's in the line. So,
when I say I hate road maps, it doesn't mean I don't have road maps. I got road
maps on road maps. I just I'm doing it in a way where if it's going to use the
token, it will use it intelligently. It will not gatekeep behind the token. Everything's going to be free to play
and at the end of the day your time's going to be the thing that I'm asking
you for, not your funding, not your your attention necessarily. I I I got just if
you give me 30 seconds, I'm going to give you 5 minutes worth of value out of
it. You know what I mean? That's the whole >> that. Studio. >> Amazing. Yeah.
What's the 34? What's the glitching in the Magpie shiny things? >> Ah, so
Mag That's literally just 3.14. Magpie. It's a pie pun because math is [ __ ] nerdy stuff. Oh.
>> it. >> Yeah, it's just the the reason why it glitches is just to literally get your
>> [laughter] >> And if you click on it, I think it takes you to my X and so on. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
>> So, it's a That is my portfolio site. >> Sure, this tab is dead.
But yeah, it takes you to wherever you'd expect it to and then back on this one
it's just like each one of these is like a full project that I've got built out
for my repos and this is not even up to date, which is pretty cool.
And that's the that's the rambly gist of what I'm doing over here is that uh
>> Amazing. >> aiming to be a collab powerhouse and that that specifically means is that
the 30 seconds or 5 minutes or however much time you decide to give me per
week, even if it's zero, is still going to be filling up with interesting and
very fun things to do with that time that will also have optional kickbacks
and all sorts of fun stuff. >> Wow. I love it. Candy said that game
looks sexy, very nice graphics. >> Thank you. >> So, yeah. No, I'm I'm excited to play. I
definitely will be building some worlds here. I think you you One of the things
I love is uh world builders give me the opportunity for other people to build on
top of it, like I said earlier. So, I'm stoked to jump in, jump in. I have I
have a bunch of games I've been meaning to to to jump on. So, this gives me that
that push and that opportunity. >> 100% and that's a that's a great real
quick shout out cuz if I've got if people are watching the water or if
they're in the audience right now. So, one of the things that I've got built
into this like a waypoints way down there in the end. But, this this QR code
here works. Uh of course this going to break on me right now, which is fantastic. It works.
I promise, guys. If if you scan this QR code here, it'll give you all the information on how to
apply. I would love to for free get your game literally playable either on the
arcade with the buttons down there or if you want it to just link directly to
your experience. Like there's there's nothing stopping me from slapping in thousands of these things and making
this way bigger than it is. I just didn't want the arcade to be like
unnecessarily large. But, like each one of these cabinets is for rent. And anybody that wants to be some of the
first ones is for rent for free. Um and I can also build cartridges. Like
if you want a skin for your community just like with the Zao skin like this
this is built from the ground up. Every part of it is permeated with being
able to collab with you in a tasteful way. Not just to have it happen, but
like I am a bipedal synergy engine. If you are a thing that exists, I can come up
with cool ways to work with you, is what I would say. >> [laughter]
>> That's crazy. I That's something that I feel in my heart, but I've never said
those words and that I like I I definitely I definitely empathize with that
message. So, I love it. Do you Do you have any last fun bits of
of anything that you want to show us as we're kind of getting to the end here?
>> Um Yeah, actually, you know what? I do. Let me show This is going to be some of the
rougher stuff that's still down in the pipeline. But, let me just do like some
blasters. Let's see. >> Amazing. >> Let's see if this will load. Yeah, okay,
cool. So, this is something that I put like an afternoon into a while ago and
haven't done much with, but it is a one-to-four player version of Degen, the
game of life, basically. Um, where I'm absolutely going to be building in the ability with like I I
use Meshy for a lot of stuff, so I'm going to be building out like any This
is true also for Waypoint and for Fableboy as well. Like Fableboy skins or
Waypoint uh those crew members that I sent on things, those are placeholder crew that are just going to be the
generics, but I'm working with some NFT communities right now to allow their users to make their NFTs just the JPEGs.
I don't want any of their keys, but just the JPEGs they can come and turn into a
full crew member that just like the mercenary fleets they can hire out and
as they're doing stuff for other people, they get like resources back in game and
stuff like that. But instead of these like little rubber duckies here that are
on the board all stacked up on each other. I don't even remember the camera
controls for this, but it's a full board game that as you go through it's just more
and more Degen and it's about who can get the most bags from it. It's just uh
Put in the roll the dice and see how it goes. You can see this guy
Yep. And it's just a board game for Degens and >> a one-player? >> It's uh four-player and you can invite a
lobby >> Oh, okay, I see. >> But this is this is an afternoon of work
with like uh you can see like I've got a repo that just makes infinite buildings
and stuff that's slapped in here. I have This is nowhere near complete, but this
is one of the things that's coming where you'll be able to have a game night
between communities literally on the fly in a neutral space if you want to or
Here's another one that I entered into a a contest which is like a week's worth
of work and is in a little bit of a rougher state, but this one is coming to
one of the cabinets as well. This is a love letter to the old F-Zero games.
It's got 20 different pilots, 20 different hovercrafts right now. Let's just go ahead and grab uh It was a a
capybara themed thing, so that's why half of them are capybara racecrafts. But we've got stuff like this guy here.
Let's just grab this one here and play now. And it's just a a very fun retro like a
hovercraft or whatever you want to call it. Right now it's a standalone thing, but
eventually this is going to be a sort of an actual race. This is going to be an
optional game mode in Waypoint where if you want to do racing leagues across the
galaxy, you'll be able to. Uh and I am honestly particularly excited about that. This is
>> That's awesome. Yeah. >> Right. This is definitely a bit of a >> more game functionality and game types
in new labs based on how people participate and interact with the substrate that you've created.
>> Yep. Exactly. It's it's just more ways to engage with the same stuff. And like
with like with those those loot chests where you'll be able to earn like the
golden cartridges or insert partner pricing here, that will just be like this will be one of the ways eventually
in Waypoint that you'll be able to earn those if it's the preferred way to
interact with it because your time is the thing that matters. If you choose to
spend it with me, I hope you find something that's cool with it, you know?
>> No, I'm I'm stoked. I think there's something for everyone in our community
here and I'm excited to to tap in more. Maybe we do our next live as a little
game night as a demo with with other people. We can just we can make it a two plus player game
where it's like if it's just me and you on an X space or whatever, we have a
great time. And if anyone else joins in, they can immediately pop in on a browser
or hopefully mobile maybe. That could be really fun. So yeah, I I appreciate your time,
Magpie. Thank you for joining me today. This was an absolute blast. I'm definitely excited for more.
And yeah, do you want to share where people can find you on the internet? I know you
shared it a little bit earlier, but if you want to share one last time.
>> The easiest way is >> [snorts] >> to join our Telegram, but that's
That is not the easiest way because in order to do that you have to go find me
on X, which is x.com/alaskanmagpie. It's spelled exactly like you would expect with no spaces. Um,
yeah, just come say hi. And if you remember any of the links that I said
today, you'll be able to find me through those links. So, if you just happen to
be checking out Fable Boy or Waypoint, you'll be able to find your way to me as
well. >> Boom. I love it. Thank you so much for coming on. Thanks for for popping in and
we'll see you all soon. Cheers. >> Have a great
